What’s new?

New Wine and new wineskins

Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preservedMatt.9v17

3 quick takeaways:

*New Covenant by grace through faith in Christ…life in the Holy Spirit.

*New wineskins to contain the new wine. Tired religious routines, customs, or structures that don’t facilitate the Gospel of the Kingdom of God by the Spirit are ‘old wineskins’ (Jesus’ teaching). We need to assess and be flexible (except around the Gospel!). Christ the Saviour must also be our King! (1 Samuel 8), not least in our hearts.

*New normal: anticipation of the age to come breaking in, Holy Spirit hope and faith. Luke 4 (Isaiah 61). Claiming inheritance. Chains fall, captives set free by Jesus…yet never losing hope amid ‘mystery’ or loss as we are part of an eternal story.
